Properties: Sweet, sour; cold.

Indications:
- Enriches yīn and boosts the kidney: Liver-kidney yīn vacuity.
- Cools the blood and stanches bleeding: Blood heat manifesting with vomiting of blood (blood ejection), nosebleed, bloody urine or stool, or flooding and spotting.
- Additional uses: Dried mò hàn lián may be decocted to treat dysentery.
Dosage & Method:
Oral: 10–15g in decoctions. Double the dose when using the fresh herb. Also used externally.
Warning:
Unsuitable for spleen-stomach vacuity cold with diarrhea.
Quality:
Large, thick, yet supple stems and absence of earth are signs of good quality.
