Dosage and method: Oral: 10–20g in decoctions.

Warnings: Because shā yuàn zǐ is warm and supplementing and has a securing and astringing action, it should be used with care in yīn vacuity with effulgent fire and in inhibited urination. It is contraindicated in frenetic stirring of the ministerial fire (vacuity fire flaming upward due to liver-kidney yīn vacuity) with persistent and frequent erections.

Quality: Fat seeds that are evenly shaped and sized are that the best.
