Origin in unofficial sources: Gentiana squarrosa Ledeb.

Use: Medicinal

Properties: Bitter and acrid*; cold*; nontoxic*.

Actions and indications: Clears heat and resolves toxin. Treats intestinal welling-abscesses (cháng yōng); clove sores (dīng); swollen welling-abscesses (yōng zhǒng); scrofula; red swollen eyes.

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (3–12g dried, 15–30g fresh). Topical: Grind to a powder and apply mixed.
