Fújiàn leaven

建神曲 〔建神麴〕jiàn shén qū

Latin pharmacognostic name: Massa Medicata Fermentata Fujianensis

Alternate English names: Quánzhōu leaven

Origin in PRC Pharmacopoeia: This is a shén qū preparation that includes over 40 medicinals; it is stronger than regular shén qū. The additions include: zisuye, jingjie, fangfeng, qianghuo, houpo, baizhu, muxiang, zhishi, and qingpi. Jiàn shén qū disperses food, transforms stagnation, and disperses wind-cold. It is often used for food stagnation with concurrent invasion of wind-cold. (PRC Pharmacopoeia)

Properties: Bitter; warm.

Indications:

Fortifies the spleen and disperses food; rectifies qì and transforms dampness; resolves wind-cold.

Dosage & Method: Oral: Decoct (6–9g) or use in pills or powders.
