Use: Medicinal

Properties: Bitter and acrid*; cold*.

Actions and indications: Quickens the blood and resolves toxin; disperses swelling and relieves pain; clears heat; eliminates dampness.* Treats menstrual irregularities; red and white vaginal discharge; heart palpitation; injury from knocks and falls; knife wounds; sores and welling-abscesses (yōng); stubborn lichen (xiǎn).

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (9–15g). Topical: Apply crushed or grind to a powder and sprinkle on the affected area or blow into the throat.
