Properties: Bitter, sweet, and acrid; cool.

Channel entry: Heart and stomach channels.

Indications:

Clears heat and resolves toxin; closes sores and engenders flesh.

swollen welling-abscesses (yōng zhǒng); toxin swellings (zhǒng dú); burns and scalds. Some sources also give scrofula; warm malaria; fright epilepsy (jīng xián); blood dysentery; intestinal wind; hemorrhoids and fistulas.

Dosage & Method: Topical: Grind to a powder and sprinkle on dry or apply mixed with liquid.

Quality: Large fat roots that are pink and farinaceous on the cross section are best.
