Category: Heat-clearing formulas / Bowel and visceral heat-clearing formula

Method: Grate the ingredients, stir-fry until fragrant with honey and wine, and grind to a powder. Nowadays prepared as a decoction.

Rationale: Shí gāo and Zhī zǐ clear spleen-stomach heat. Fáng fēng disperses deep-lying fire in the spleen. Huò xiāng is an aromatic that rectifies qì and harmonizes the center, restoring normal spleen and stomach function and helping the action of the Fáng fēng. Gān cǎo harmonizes the center and drains fire. It works with the Shí gāo and Zhī zǐ to drain the spleen, but also prevents the draining action from damaging the spleen. This formula therefore comprises cold and cool agents to dispel the evil and warm acrid agents to restore qì dynamic.
