Dried Ginger Gruel
干姜汤 〔乾薑湯〕 gān jiāng zhōu

Ingredients
- Gān jiāng (干姜 Zingiberis Rhizoma, dried ginger) 1–3g
- Gāo liáng jiāng (高良姜 Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma, lesser galangal [root]) 3–5g
- Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 60g
Actions: Warms the spleen and stomach; disperses cold and relieves pain.
Indications: Spleen-stomach vacuity cold with cold pain in the heart [region] and abdomen;
Rationale: Gān jiāng is hot and acrid. It enters the spleen, stomach, and lung channels. In this formula, it is used to warm the center and dispel cold. Note that Shēng jiāng is not used in this formula, since it is mainly used to effuse sweat. Gāo liáng jiāng is warm and acrid, and enters the spleen and stomach channels. It warms the stomach and disperse cold, and is especially effective in relieving pain due to stomach cold.
