Source: Hé Jì Jú Fāng 和剂局方

Ingredients:

Action: Rectifies qì and resolves the exterior.

Indication: External contraction of wind-cold occurring with internal qì stagnation. Signs: physical cold and generalized heat effusion, headache, glomus and fullness in the chest and stomach duct, belching, no desire for food and drink. Tongue fur: Thin and white.

Category: Exterior-resolving formulas / Warm acrid exterior-resolving formulas

Method: Decoct with water.

Rationale: Xiāng fù rectifies qì and resolves depression. Zǐ sū yè is aromatic, acrid, and warm; it not only courses wind and disperses cold but also rectifies qì and harmonizes the center. Its exterior-resolving action is enhanced by Xiāng fù. These two agents therefore address root and tip. Chén pí rectifies qì and transforms stagnation, while Zhì gān cǎo harmonizes all the agents of the formula.
