Alternate Chinese names: Shí gāo zhī mǔ cāng zhú tāng (石膏知母苍朮汤 Gypsum, Anemarrhena, and Atractylodes Decoction)

Ingredients

• Shēng shí gāo (生石膏 Gypsum Crudum, crude gypsum) 16g
• Zhī mǔ (知母 Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, anemarrhena [root]) 6g
• Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) (mix-fried) 2g
• Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 8–10g
• Cāng zhú (苍朮 Atractylodis Rhizoma, atractylodes [rhizome]) 2g

Actions: Clears heat and dries dampness.

Indications: (a) Damp warmth with profuse sweating, generalized heaviness, and cold feet; (b) damp impediment (shī bì) transforming into heat; (c) summerheat with signs of damp encumbrance such as head heavy as if swathed, oppression in the chest, thirst with no desire to drink, and painful swollen joints. Tongue fur: White and slimy.
