Action: Nourishes the blood and quiets the fetus; fortifies the stomach and spleen; disinhibits urine.

Tongue: Pale with slimy white fur. Pulse: Fine, soggy, and moderate. This decoction is especially effective if there are gastrointestinal signs.
Category: Harmonization formulas / Liver-spleen harmonization formula
Method: Grind to a powder. Nowadays prepared as a decoction.
Rationale: Dāng guī, Chuān xiōng, and Bái sháo nourish the blood and regulate the liver, ensuring that the liver is properly nourished and performs its free coursing function properly. In addition, Bái sháo emolliates the liver and relieves pain, relieving abdominal pain due to liver vacuity with blood stagnation or liver-spleen disharmony. Bái zhú, Fú líng, and Zé xiè fortify spleen-earth. They are bland-sweet dampness-percolating medicinals that disencumber the spleen of dampness. The sour constraining properties of Bái sháo balance the acrid dispersing properties of Dāng guī and Chuān xiōng, while the percolating action of Fú líng and Zé xiè is balanced by the spleen-fortifying action of Bái zhú.
