Humor-Increasing Qì-Coordinating Decoction
增液承气汤 〔增液承氣湯〕zēng yè chéng qì tāng

Ingredients:
- Xuán shēn (玄参 Scrophulariae Radix, scrophularia [root]) 25g
- Mài dōng (麦冬 Ophiopogonis Radix, ophiopogon [root]) 15g
- Shēng dì huáng (生地黄 Rehmanniae Radix Exsiccata seu Recens, dried/fresh rehmannia [root]) 25g
- Dà huáng (大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, rhubarb) 9g
- Máng xiāo (芒硝 Natrii Sulfas , mirabilite) 5g
Action: Enriches yīn and increases humor; frees the stool and discharges heat.

Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Dà huáng and Máng xiāo are fire-draining precipitants. Shēng dì huáng, Xuán shēn, and Mài dōng, which together constitute Zēng yè tāng (增液汤 Humor-Increasing Decoction), enrich yīn and increase humor and help the Dà huáng and Máng xiāo free the stool by the principle of increasing water to move the grounded ship.
