Turtle Shell Decocted Pill

鳖甲煎丸 〔鱉甲煎丸〕biē jiǎ jiān wán

Ingredients:

Action: Transforms stasis and disperses glomus.

Indication: Persistent malaria with hard glomus lump in the rib-side becoming a mother-of-malaria (nüè mǔ).

Category: Dispersion formulas / Concretion and conglomeration formulas

Method: Modern method is grind and make into small pills.

Dosage: Take 3g 3 times a day.

Rationale: The sovereign agent, Biē jiǎ, commonly used in the treatment of concretions, conglomerations, accumulations, and gatherings, softens harness and disperses binds. Dà huáng, Zhè chóng, Táo rén, Mǔ dān pí, Líng xiāo huā, Shǔ fù, and Chì xiāo break blood and attack stasis. These agents disperse the glomus lump. Chái hú, Huáng qín, Bàn xià, Rén shēn, Guì zhī, and Bái sháo, the main agents in Chái hú guì zhī tāng (柴胡桂枝汤 Bupleurum and Cinnamon Twig Decoction), harmonize provisioning and defense, and expel the evil. Hòu pò, Shè gān, Qiāng láng, and Fēng fáng precipitate qì and transform phlegm. Shí wéi, Qú mài, and Tíng lì zǐ disinhibit water-damp. ē jiāo and Dǎng shēn supplement qì and blood. Ginger helps the Guì zhī to move the blood.
