Three-Seed Filial Devotion Decoction
三子养亲汤 〔三子養親湯〕sān zǐ yǎng qīn tāng

- Sū zǐ (苏子 Perillae Fructus, perilla fruit) 12g
- Bái jiè zǐ (白芥子 Sinapis Albae Semen, white mustard [seed]) 10g
- Lái fú zǐ (莱菔子 Raphani Semen, radish seed) 15g
Action: Downbears qì, disperses food, and warms and transforms phlegm-rheum.
Indication: Cough, qì counterflow, oppression in the chest, copious phlegm, and poor appetite in patients suffering from spleen vacuity for many years. Tongue fur: Slimy. Pulse: Slippery.

Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Bái jiè zǐ warms the lung and moves phlegm. Zǐ sū zǐ downbears qì and moves phlegm. Lái fú zǐ disperses food and moves phlegm. Thus, all three move phlegm. In addition, each has another special function. Bái jiè zǐ warms the lung and disinhibits qì, treating copious phlegm and glomus in the chest. Zǐ sū zǐ downbears qì and calms panting, and therefore addresses qì counterflow cough and panting. Lái fú zǐ addresses poor appetite and indigestion.
