Cold Wheezing Pill
冷哮丸 〔冷哮丸〕lěng xiāo wán

Ingredients:
- Má huáng (麻黄 Ephedrae Herba, ephedra) 10g
- Chuān wū (川乌 Aconiti Radix, aconite main root) (processed) 3g
- Xì xīn (细辛 Asari Rhizoma et Radix, asarum) 3g
- Shǔ jiāo (蜀椒 Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, zanthoxylum [husk]) 10g
- Bái fán (白矾 Alumen , alum) 2g
- Yá zào (牙皂 Gleditsiae Fructus Abnormalis, small gleditsia [fruit]) 2g
- Bàn xià (半夏 Pinelliae Rhizoma, pinellia [rhizome]) 10g
- Dǎn xīng (胆星 Arisaema cum Bile , bile [-processed] arisaema [root]) 10g
- Xìng rén (杏仁 Armeniacae Semen, apricot kernel) 10g
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 3g
- Zǐ wǎn (紫菀 Asteris Radix, aster [root]) 15g
- Kuǎn dōng huā (款冬花 Farfarae Flos, coltsfoot) 15g
Action: Disperses cold and flushes phlegm.
Indication: Wheezing patterns manifesting as cold phlegm in the lung, occurring in attacks often triggered off by exposure to cold, and manifesting as hasty

Warnings: Contraindicated in vacuity of right qì, with
Rationale: Má huáng, Chuān wū, and Xì xīn are acrid agents that warm the lung and disperse cold. Huā jiāo warms the center and eliminates dampness. Bái fán and Zào jiá fruit flush phlegm and disinhibit the orifices. Bàn xià and Dǎn xīng eliminate phlegm and precipitate qì. Xìng rén, Zǐ wǎn, and Kuǎn dōng huā relieve cough and calm panting. Shēng jiāng, being warm and acrid, disperses cold phlegm, helps the Zào jiá fruit to flush phlegm and disinhibit the orifices, while also resolving the toxin of Chuān wū. Shén qū moves the spleen and disperses accumulations, as well as helping the Bàn xià to eliminate phlegm. Gān cǎo harmonizes all the agents of the formula, as well as resolving the toxin of the Zào jiá fruit.
