Shēng jiāng, being warm and acrid, disperses cold phlegm, helps the Zào jiá fruit to flush phlegm and disinhibit the orifices, while also resolving the toxin of Chuān wū. Shén qū moves the spleen and disperses accumulations, as well as helping the Bàn xià to eliminate phlegm. Gān cǎo harmonizes all the agents of the formula, as well as resolving the toxin of the Zào jiá fruit.
