Five Kernels Pill
五仁丸 〔五仁丸〕wǔ rén wán
Source: Shì Yī Dé Xiào Fāng 世医得效方
Ingredients:
- Táo rén (桃仁 Persicae Semen, peach kernel) 15g
- Xìng rén (杏仁 Armeniacae Semen, apricot kernel) 30g
- Bǎi zǐ rén (柏子仁 Platycladi Semen, arborvitae seed) 3.8g
- Sōng zǐ rén (松子仁 Pini Semen, pine nut) 3g
- Yù lǐ rén (郁李仁 Pruni Semen, bush cherry kernel) 3g
- Chén pí (陈皮 Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, tangerine peel) 120g
Action: Moistens the intestines and frees the stool.
Indication: Constipation due to vacuity in old age or postpartum desiccation of fluids.
Category: Draining-precipitation formulas / Moist precipitation formulas
Method: Grind ingredients and form into pills the size of firmiana seeds with honey. Can also be prepared as a decoction.
Dosage: 12g with water on an empty stomach.
Rationale: All five agents are oily, and have the effect of lubricating the intestines and freeing the stool.
