Three Agents Emergency Pill
三物备急丸 〔三物備急丸〕sān wù bèi jí wán

Ingredients:
- Bā dòu shuāng (巴豆霜 Crotonis Fructus Pulveratus, croton [fruit] frost) 1g
- Dà huáng (大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, rhubarb) 1g
- Gān jiāng (干姜 Zingiberis Rhizoma, dried ginger) 1g
Action: Expels cold accumulations.
Indication: Cold food accumulation with distension and pain in the stomach duct and abdomen, constipation,
Category: Draining-precipitation formulas / Warm precipitation
Rationale: Bā dòu not only dispels the cold evil from the stomach and intestines but can also drain gastrointestinal stagnation. For this purpose, it can be used alone. In this formula, it is combined with ginger for greater cold-dispelling action. Dà huáng precipitates and frees the stool, its coldness and bitterness being offset by the other two agents. This formula is used for critical conditions requiring swift action, hence the name Three Agents Emergency Pill.
