Five Juices Beverage
五汁饮 〔五汁飲〕wǔ zhī yǐn

Ingredients:
- Mài dōng zhī (麦冬汁 Ophiopogonis Radix Recentis Succus, fresh ophiopogon [tuber] juice)
- ǒu zhī (藕汁 Nelumbinis Rhizomatis Recentis Succus, lotus root juice)
- Lí zhī (梨汁 Pyri Fructus Succus, pear juice)
- Bí qí zhī (荸荠汁 Heleocharitis Cormi Succus, water chestnut juice)
- Xiān lú gēn zhī (鲜芦根汁 Phragmitis Rhizomatis Recentis Succus, fresh phragmites [root] sap)
Action: Nourishes yīn and clears heat; engenders liquid and allays thirst.
Indication: Damage to fluids in warm disease with thirst and dry throat and lips.

Method:
Rationale: This is one of the very few formulas that is made by combining raw juices. The effectiveness of this innovative formula of Yè Tiān-Shì's may be explained biomedically by the presence of vitamin C (known to be effective in the treatment of septicemia), which would be destroyed by decoction.
