Action: Disperses cold and transforms phlegm.
Indication: External contraction of wind-cold or dryness-cold causing cough with copious phlegm, mild headache, and nasal congestion. Tongue fur: White. Pulse: Stringlike.
Category: Dryness-relieving formulas / External dryness formulas
Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Xìng rén is a warm, bitter, and moist agent that diffuses and downbears lung qì, transforms phlegm, and relieves cough. Zǐ sū yè resolves the exterior by its mild sweat-inducing action, its harsh dryness being counteracted by Xìng rén. Jié gěng opens the lung and dispels phlegm. Qián hú downbears qì and precipitates phlegm.
