Generalized Pain Stasis-Expelling Decoction
身痛逐瘀汤 〔身痛逐瘀湯〕shēn tòng zhú yū tāng

Ingredients:
- Táo rén (桃仁 Persicae Semen, peach kernel) 9g
- Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica) 9g
- Chuān xiōng (川芎 Chuanxiong Rhizoma, chuanxiong [rhizome]) 6g
- Wǔ líng zhī (五灵脂 Trogopteri Faeces, squirrel's droppings) 6g
- Qín jiāo (秦艽 Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix, large gentian [root]) 3g
- Xiāng fù (香附 Cyperi Rhizoma, cyperus [rhizome]) 3g
- Qiāng huó (羌活 Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, notopterygium [root]) 3g
- Huái niú xī (怀牛膝 Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, achyranthes [root]) 9g
- Hóng huā (红花 Carthami Flos, carthamus [flower]) 9g
- Mò yào (没药 Myrrha , myrrh) 3–6g
- Dì lóng (地龙 Pheretima , earthworm) (mix–fried) 6g
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) (mix–fried) 6g
Action: Harmonizes the stomach and dispels stasis; frees the network vessels and relieves pain.
Indication: Persistent blood stasis

Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Táo rén, Hóng huā, Dāng guī, Chuān xiōng, and Mò yào quicken the blood, transform stasis, and relieve pain. Wǔ líng zhī and Dì lóng dispel stasis and free the network vessels. Qiāng huó and Qín jiāo dispel wind-damp from all parts of the body. Xiāng fù rectifies qì and relieves pain, while Niú xī strengthens the sinew and bone. Finally, Gān cǎo harmonizes all the agents of the formula.
