Source: Shì Yī Dé Xiào Fāng 世医得效方

Ingredients:

• Yì zhì rén (益智仁 Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus, alpinia [fruit]) 2g
• Wū yào (乌药 Linderae Radix, lindera [root]) 2g
• Shān yào (山药 Dioscoreae Rhizoma, dioscorea [root]) 1.5g

Action: Warms the spleen and kidney; reduces urine.

Indication: Dream emission.

Category: Astringing formulas / essence-astringing essence enuresis-checking

Method: Grind to a powder, boil to a paste, and form into small pills.

Rationale: Yì zhì rén fruit is a warm acrid agent that warms the spleen and kidney; it secures qì and astringes essence. Shān yào enter the kidney and spleen channels to fortify the spleen, supplement yáng, secures the kidney, and boost essence. Wū yào is a warm acrid agent that also enters both the spleen and kidney channels. It normalizes qì and disperses cold. This formula thus treats dream emission by addressing insufficiency of the root of earlier heaven (the kidney) and of the root of later heaven (the spleen).

Notes: This is effectively the same formula as Suō quán wán (缩泉丸 Stream-Reducing Pill).
