Two Immortals Decoction
二仙汤 〔二仙湯〕èr xiān tāng

Ingredients:
- Xiān máo (仙茅 Curculiginis Rhizoma, curculigo [root]) 6–15g
- Xiān líng pí (仙灵脾 Epimedii Radix, epimedium root) 9–15g
- Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica) 9g
- Bā jǐ tiān (巴戟天 Morindae Officinalis Radix, morinda [root]) 9g
- Huáng bǎi (黄柏 Phellodendri Cortex, phellodendron [bark]) 6–9g
- Zhī mǔ (知母 Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, anemarrhena [root]) 6–9g
Action: Supplements the kidney and drains fire; regulates the thoroughfare (chōng) and controlling (rèn) vessels.
Indication: Menopausal syndrome, dizziness, hypertension, and other diseases affecting the thoroughfare (chōng) and controlling (rèn) vessels.

Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: The feature of this formula is that it warms yáng and drains fire. Xiān máo and Yín yáng huò, the sovereign agents, warm kidney yáng. This action is enhanced by Bā jǐ tiān. Huáng bǎi and Zhī mǔ drain fire and supplement kidney. Finally, Dāng guī, almost indispensable in any women's formula, nourishes the blood and regulates the thoroughfare (chōng) and controlling (rèn) vessels. This formula therefore treats disorders of the thoroughfare vessel and controlling vessel stemming from debilitation of kidney yáng with frenetic stirring of vacuity fire. Modern research shows that it reduces blood pressure. Any disease (nephritis, urinary tract infection, amenorrhea) characterized by signs of effulgent kidney vacuity fire and thoroughfare vessel and controlling vessel disorders can be treated by varying this formula.
