Ingredients

• Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) (mix–fried) 18g
• Shēng dì huáng (生地黄 Rehmanniae Radix Exsiccata seu Recens, dried/fresh rehmannia [root]) 18g
• Ē jiāo (阿胶 Asini Corii Colla, ass hide glue) 9g
• Mài dōng (麦冬 Ophiopogonis Radix, ophiopogon [root]) 15g
• Shēng bái sháo (生白芍 Paeoniae Radix Alba Cruda, raw white peony [root]) 6–9g
• Huǒ má rén (火麻仁 Cannabis Fructus, cannabis fruit) 9g
• Mǔ lì (牡蛎 Ostreae Concha, oyster shell) 15g
• Shēng biē jiǎ (生鳖甲 Trionycis Carapax Crudus, raw [fresh-water] turtle shell) 24g

Actions: Fosters yīn and subdues yáng.

Indications: Heat evil entering with the lower burner with a dry tongue, black teeth, and a sensation of wriggling in the fingers foreboding tetanic reversal. Pulse: Sunken and rapid.

Method: Decoct with water.

Notes: This is Jiā jiǎn fù mài tāng (加减复脉汤 Pulse-Restorative Variant Decoction) with the addition of Mǔ lì and Biē jiǎ (two shells or armors.)
