Source: Zhèng Zhì Zhǔn Shéng 证治准绳

Ingredients:

• Nǚ zhēn zǐ (女贞子 Ligustri Lucidi Fructus, ligustrum [fruit])
• Hàn lián cǎo (旱莲草 Ecliptae Herba, eclipta)

Action: Supplements the liver and kidney.

Indication: Liver-kidney yīn vacuity with dizziness, flowery vision, insomnia, profuse dreaming, limp aching lumbus and knees; yīn vacuity bleeding and premature graying of the hair.

Method: Grind equal amounts of each agent and form into pills with honey.

Dosage: 9–15g 2–3 times a day.

Rationale: Nuzhenzi enriches yīn and supplements vacuity, while Hàn lián cǎo (Mò hàn lián) nourishes yīn and stanches bleeding. Both agents enrich yīn and supplement the liver and kidney. This formula, with only two agents, is balanced in nature and nourishes yīn and blood without causing stagnation.
