Spleen-Effusing Decoction
越婢汤 〔越婢湯〕yuè bì tāng
Source: Jīn Guì Yào Lüè 金匮要略
Ingredients:
- Má huáng (麻黄 Ephedrae Herba, ephedra) 6–9g
- Shēng shí gāo (生石膏 Gypsum Crudum, crude gypsum) 10–15g
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 3–6g
- Shēng jiāng (生姜 Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, fresh ginger) 3–6g
- Dà zǎo (大枣 Jujubae Fructus, jujube) 3–5 pieces
Action: Promotes sweating, disinhibits water, and abates swelling.
Indication: Wind water swelling manifesting as presence or absence of heat effusion and of sweating, aversion to wind, thirst, generalized water swelling, and scant urine. Tongue fur: White. Pulse: Floating.
