Scallion Yáng-Freeing Decoction
白通汤 〔白通湯〕bái tōng tāng

Ingredients:
- Shēng fù zǐ (生附子 Aconiti Radix Lateralis Cruda, raw aconite [accessory root]) 9g
- Gān jiāng (干姜 Zingiberis Rhizoma, dried ginger) 9g
- Cōng bái (葱白 Allii Fistulosi Bulbus, scallion white) (add at end) 12g
Action: Frees yáng and stems counterflow.
Indication: Exuberant internal yīn cold, repelling yáng to the outer body with reversal cold of the limbs, aversion to cold, fatigue, clear-grain diarrhea,

Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: This formula is Sì nì tāng (四逆汤 Counterflow Cold Decoction)with Cōng bái instead of Gān cǎo. As in the original formula, the Fù zǐ and Gān jiāng return yáng and stem counterflow, treating exuberant internal yīn cold characterized by cold limbs, aversion to cold, and clear-grain diarrhea. Cōng bái is acrid and warm, and is slippery in substance, and it is used here to free flow of yáng qì between the upper and lower body.
