Category: Summerheat-dispelling formulas / Summerheat-dispelling exterior-resolving formulas

Method: Dosage is for decoction, the form in which the formula is now prepared.

Rationale: Xiāng rú is warm, acrid, and aromatic; it can not only disperse cold and resolve the exterior but can also disperse summerheat and transform dampness, eliminating damp stagnation in the center burner. Fitting the needs of the pattern precisely, it is the sovereign agent in this formula. Hòu pò is a warm bitter agent that moves qì and loosens the center, helping Xiāng rú to transform dampness. Bái biǎn dòu, which is sweet and balanced, fortifies the spleen and transforms dampness, thereby enhance the action of Xiāng rú. These three agents together thus treat both root and tip, resolving the exterior signs and checking the vomiting and diarrhea.
