Washing
洗 〔洗〕 xǐ
To remove earth or unwanted parts by dipping, rubbing, or scrubbing in water. Withthe exception of flowers, whose active constituents are easily lost in water, most materials are washed before use. The main aim of washing is to remove earth: materials should not be left in water too long otherwise they lose their active constituents. Light, soft materials in particular should be washed as quickly as possible. See processing of medicinals.
