Spleen yáng

脾阳 〔脾陽〕pí yáng

Splenic movement and transformation, and the warming effect it produces. When spleen yáng is vacuous splenic transformation breaks down, and signs such as nontransformation of grain and water, abdominal fullness, diarrhea, and lack of warmth in extremities are observed. In some cases, phlegm-rheum may develop or water-damp may cause swelling of the extremities. Spleen yáng requires the warmth of the life gate fire; hence insufficiency of the life gate fire can cause spleen yáng vacuity.
