A method of achieving supplementation and drainage that involves asking the patient to breath in or out on insertion and extraction of the acupuncture needle. Insertion on exhalation and extraction on inhalation supplement, whereas insertion on inhalation and extraction on exhalation drain. See needle manipulation (technique).
