消法 〔消法〕xiāo fǎ

One of the eight methods. The gradual breaking up of accumulations of substances in the body, using medicinals that abduct and disperse, soften hardness, and transform accumulations. Plain Questions (素问 sù wèn) states, Hardness is whittled away, and Binds are dispersed. In practice, dispersion possesses a broad field of application. It can be used for concretions and conglomerations, glomus lumps, food accumulations, water amassment, calculi (stones), scrofula, and phlegm nodes.
