ST-27 Great Gigantic

大巨 〔大巨〕dà jù

Alternate names: 液门 yè mén, Humor Gate; 腋门 yè mén, Armpit Gate

Channel: ST, Foot Yáng Brightness (yáng míng) Stomach Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the smaller abdomen, 2 cùn inferior to the umbilicus and 2 cùn lateral to the midline.

Classic location: One cùn below Outer Mound (ST-26), two cùn either side of the midline. (Yī Zōng Jīn Jiàn)

Local anatomy: Branches of the 11th intercostal artery and vein; laterally, the inferior epigastric artery and vein. The 11th intercostal nerve.

Action: Supplements the kidney and boosts qì; invigorates yáng.

Modern indications: Smaller abdominal distension and fullness; inhibited urination; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); seminal emission; premature ejaculation.

Classic indications: Slumping mounting (㿉疝 tuí shàn); hemiplegia; fatigued limbs; loss of sleep and susceptibility to fright; vexation and thirst.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒1.2 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 7‒15 cones; pole 10‒20 min.
