ST-16 Breast Window

膺窗 〔膺窗〕 yīng chuāng

Channel: ST, foot yáng brightness (yáng míng) stomach channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the chest, in the third intercostal space, on the midclavicular line.

Classical location: In the depression one cùn and six fēn below Roof (ST-15), four cùn either side of the midline. From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: The lateral thoracic artery and vein. The branch of the anterior thoracic nerve.

Action: Clears heat and resolves depression; relieves pain and disperses swelling.

Modern indications: Cough; panting; distending pain in the chest and rib-side; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng).

Classical indications: Wheezing and panting; cough and counterflow; heat effusion with aversion to cold; fullness in the chest and shortness of breath; unquiet sleep; pain in the ribs; mounting (shàn) pain; swelling of the lips; rumbling intestines and outpour diarrhea.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3 cùn downward oblique insertion. Moxa: 3‒5 cones; pole 5‒15 min.
