M-HN-08 Back of the Ball

球后 〔球後〕qiú hòu

Channel: Non-Channel Point

Modern location: An acupoint located between the eyeball and the infraorbital ridge, halfway between the midpoint of the infraorbital ridge (ST-1) and the outer canthus.

Local anatomy: At its deep level, the infraorbital artery and vein. A branch of the facial nerve and the ramus zygomaticofacialis; deeper, the infraorbital nerve.

Modern indications: Inflammation or atrophy of the optic nerve; pigmentary degeneration of the retina; glaucoma; early stages of cataracts; nearsightedness in young people.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 1.0‒1.5 cùn perpendicular insertion along the lower orbital wall. Have the patient gaze directly ahead and secure the eyeball in place from below with a finger.

Needle sensation: Aching and distension of the eyeball, sometimes accompanied by a protruding sensation.
