M-BW-25 Seventeenth Vertebra Point

十七椎穴 〔十七椎穴〕 shí qī zhuī xuè

Channel: Nonchannel point

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lower back, inferior to the spinous process of the fifth lumbar vertebra (i.e., at the lumbosacral joint).

Classical location: At the seventeenth vertebra. (Lèi Jīng Tú Yì) Illustrated SupplementXXX

Local anatomy: The posterior branch of the lumbar artery. The medial branch of the dorsal ramus of the 5th lumbar spinal nerve.

Modern indications: Lumbar pain; sciatica; shifted bladder; menstrual pain; flooding and spotting; enuresis.

Needle stimulus: Needling: Intradermal needle. Moxa: 7‒15 cones; pole 10‒20 min.

Needle sensation: Localized distension and numbness extending to the gluteal region.
