M-BW-16 Glomus Root

痞根 〔痞根〕pǐ gēn

Channel: Non-Channel Point

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lower back, 3.5 cùn lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra.

Classic location: Below the thirteenth vertebra, three and a half inches either side of the midline. (Yī Xué Rù Men)

Local anatomy: The posterior branch of the 1st lumbar artery and vein. The lateral branch of the dorsal ramus of the 12th thoracic nerve; deeper, the dorsal ramus of the 1st lumbar nerve.

Modern indications: Glomus lump (specifically hepatosplenomegaly); diarrhea; hernia; lumbar pain; stomach pain.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒0.8 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 5‒9 cones; pole 10‒30 min.
