ST-3 Great Bone-Hole

巨髎 〔巨髎〕 jù liáo

Channel: ST, foot yáng brightness (yáng míng) stomach channel; shared point on the yáng springing (yáng qiāo) vessel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the cheek, straight below ST-2 (sì bái), level with the lower border of the ala nasi.

Classical location: Eight fēn lateral to the nostril, directly below the pupil, level with Water Trough (GV-26). From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: The branches of the facial and infraorbital arteries and veins. The branches of the facial and infraorbital nerves.

Action: Courses wind and quickens the network vessels; disperses swelling and relieves pain.

Modern indications: Deviated eyes and mouth; twitching of the eyelids; nosebleed; toothache; swelling of the lips and cheek.

Classical indications: Nearsightedness; tearing; aversion to wind and cold in the face; eye screens.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3‒0.4 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 5 cones; pole 5 min.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the stomach channel and yáng springing (yáng qiāo vessel).
