GV-22 Fontanel Meeting
囟会 〔囟會〕xìn huì
Alternate names: 顶门 dǐng mén, Vertex Gate; 鬼门 guǐ mén, Ghost Gate; 前头百会 qián tóu bǎi huì, Hundred Convergences of the Forehead; 囟门 xìn mén, Fontanel Gate; 囟上 xìn shàng, Top of the Fontanel
Channel: GV, Governing (dū) Vessel
Modern location: An acupoint located on the superior aspect of the head, 2 cùn within the anterior hairline on the midline.
Classic location: One cùn and five fēn directly in front of Before the Vertex (GV-21). (Yī Zōng Jīn Jiàn)
Local anatomy: The anastomotic network formed by the superficial temporal artery and vein and the frontal artery and vein. The branch of the frontal nerve.
Action: Calms the liver and extinguishes wind; opens the orifices and settles fright.
Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; deep-source nasal congestion; epilepsy.
Classic indications: Sudden epilepsy in children; fright epilepsy (jīng xián); swelling of the head and face; nosebleed; nasal congestion; nasal polyps; insomnia or hypersomnia; headache due to excessive drinking.
Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3 cùn backward transverse insertion. Moxa: 3‒5 cones; pole 3‒5 min.
Warning: Needling of this point is contraindicated on children whose fontanels have not yet closed.
