GV-19 Behind the Vertex

后顶 〔後頂〕 hòu dǐng

Alternate names: 交冲 jiāo chōng, Intersection Surge; 交冲 jiāo chōng, Intersection Hub

Channel: GV, governing () vessel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the posterior aspect of the head, 3 cùn above the superior border of the external occipital protuberance (eop) on the midline.

Classical location: One cùn and five fēn directly above Unyielding Space (GV-18). From The Golden Mirror of Medicine (医宗金鑑 yī zōng jīn jiàn)

Local anatomy: See GV-17.

Action: Calms the liver and subdues yáng; quiets the heart and spirit.

Modern indications: Headache; dizziness; mania and withdrawal; epilepsy.

Classical indications: Vertex headache; hemilateral headache; common cold; clouded head or dizzy head.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3 cùn backward transverse insertion. Moxa: 5‒7 cones; pole 5‒20 min.
