GB-17 Upright Provisioning

正营 〔正營〕 zhèng yíng

Channel: GB, foot lesser yáng (shào yáng) gallbladder channel; shared point on the yáng linking (yáng wéi) vessel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the superolateral aspect of the head, 3.5 cùn within the anterior hairline on the line connecting GB-15 (tóu lín qí) and GB-20 (fēng chí).

Classical location: One and one half cùn behind Eye Window (GB-16). From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: The anastomotic plexus formed by the parietal branches of the superficial temporal artery and vein and the occipital artery and vein. The anastomotic branch of the frontal and great occipital nerves.

Action: Clears heat and drains the gallbladder; soothes the sinews and quickens the network vessels.

Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; pursed lips; toothache.

Classical indications: Hemilateral headache and stiff nape; aversion to wind and cold; toothache; nausea; retching and vomiting; stiff lips.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3‒0.5 cùn backward transverse insertion. Moxa: 5 cones; pole 5‒15 min.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the gallbladder channel and yáng linking vessel (yáng wéi mài).
