GB-8 Valley Lead

率谷 〔率谷〕shuài gǔ

Alternate names: 率骨 shuài gǔ, Following the Bone; 率角 shuài jiǎo, Following the Corner; 蟀容 shuài róng, Cricket Container

Channel: GB, Foot Lesser Yáng (shào yáng) Gallbladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lateral aspect of the head, about 1.5 cùn superior to the apex of the ear.

Classic location: In the depression one and a half cùn within the hairline above the ear. Bite and the point can be felt. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: The parietal branches of the superficial temporal artery and vein. The anastomotic branch of the auriculotemporal nerve and great occipital nerve.

Action: Courses wind and quickens the network vessels; relieves pain.

Modern indications: Hemilateral headache; dizziness: child acute fright wind and chronic fright wind.

Classic indications: Stomach cold; vexation and fullness after eating; persistent retching and vomiting; chronic child fright wind; cough; expectoration of phlegm; eye diseases; head wind with pain at the corners of the forehead.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.2‒0.3 cùn transverse insertion. Moxa: 3 cones; pole 5‒15 min.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the gallbladder and bladder channels.
