GB-7 Temporal Hairline Curve

曲鬓 〔曲鬢〕qū bìn

Alternate names: 曲发 qū fà, Hair Curve

Channel: GB, Foot Lesser Yáng (shào yáng) Gallbladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located in the temporal region, at the intersection of a line drawn upward from the posterior margin of the preauricular hairline (i.e., the posterior margin of the sideburn) and a horizontal line drawn just above the top of the ear.

Classic location: In a depression behind Suspended Tuft (GB-6) in front of the ear behind the curved hairline. A space can be felt when the jaw is moved. (Yī Zōng Jīn Jiàn)

Local anatomy: See GB-4.

Action: Clears heat and disperses swelling; extinguishes wind and relieves pain.

Modern indications: Headache; toothache; clenched jaw; fulminant loss of voice; pain in the temporal region; swelling of the cheek and submandibular region.

Classic indications: Eye diseases; retching and vomiting; stiff nape; toothache; child fright wind.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.2‒0.3 cùn backward transverse insertion. Moxa: 3‒5 cones; pole 3‒5 min.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the gallbladder and bladder channels.
