GB-1 Pupil Bone-Hole

瞳子髎 〔瞳子髎〕tóng zǐ liáo

Alternate names: 后曲 hòu qū, Hind Curve; 前关 qián guān, Foregate; 太阳 tài yáng, Greater Yang

Channel: GB, Foot Lesser Yáng (shào yáng) Gallbladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located lateral to the eye, in the temporal fossa, on the posterior edge of the zygomatic bone, level with the outer canthus.

Classic location: Five fēn out from the outer canthus. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: The zygomaticoorbital artery and vein. The zygomaticofacial and zygomaticotemporal nerves, the temporal branch of the facial nerve.

Action: Dispels wind and discharges heat; courses the channels and frees qì; relieves pain and brightens the eyes.

Modern indications: Headache; painful red swollen eyes; eye screens; clear-eye blindness.

Classic indications: Blindness; nearsightedness; eye screens; painful reddening of the outer canthus; itching of the inner canthus.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.2‒0.3 cùn backward transverse insertion. Moxa: 8 cones; 5‒15 pole min.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the gallbladder, small intestine and triple burner channels.
