TB-14 Shoulder Bone-Hole

肩髎 〔肩髎〕 jiān liáo

Channel: TB, hand lesser yáng (shào yáng) triple burner channel

Modern location: An acupoint located at the posterior aspect of the shoulder joint, immediately posterior and inferior to the acromion.

Classical location: Above Upper Arm Convergence (TB-13), at the top of the arm at the end of the shoulder. The point is found when the arm is lifted to a slanting position. From The Golden Mirror of Medicine (医宗金鑑 yī zōng jīn jiàn)

Local anatomy: The muscular branch of the posterior circumflex humeral artery. The muscular branch of the axillary nerve.

Action: Dispels wind and overcomes dampness; moves qì, quickens the blood, and relieves pain.

Modern indications: Pain and hypertonicity in the shoulder and arm.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.7‒1.0 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒5 cones; pole 5‒15 min.
