TB-11 Clear Cold Abyss

清冷渊 〔清冷淵〕 qīng lěng yuān

Alternate names: 清昊 qīng hào, Clear Sky; 清冷泉 qīng lěng quán, Clear Cold Spring; 清灵 qīng líng, Clear Spirit

Channel: TB, hand lesser yáng (shào yáng) triple burner channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the posterior aspect of the upper arm, in the depression about 1.5 cùn above the superior border of the olecranon when the elbow is bent.

Classical location: Two cùn above the elbow. The point is found with the elbow stretched and the arm raised. From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: The terminal branches of the median collateral artery and vein. The posterior brachial cutaneous nerve and the muscular branch of the radial nerve.

Action: Frees channel and network vessel qì; clears heat and drains fire.

Modern indications: Headache; impediment pain (bì tòng) in the arms and shoulder; yellowing of the eyes.

Classical indications: Stiff neck; yellow eyes; rib-side pain.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3‒0.5 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒5 cones; pole 5‒10 min.
