KI-19 Yīn Metropolis

阴都 〔陰都〕 yīn dū

Alternate names: 石宫 shí gōng, Stone Palace; 食宫 shí gōng, Food Palace; 食吕 shí lǚ, Food Tube; 通关 tōng guān, Free Passage

Channel: KI, foot lesser yīn (shào yīn) kidney channel; shared point on the thoroughfare (chōng) vessel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the upper abdomen, 4 cùn superior to the umbilicus and 0.5 cùn lateral to the midline.

Classical location: One cùn below Open Valley (KI-20), one and a half cùn either side of the midline. From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: See KI-18.

Action: Fortifies the spleen and harmonizes the stomach; regulates qì dynamic and frees abdominal qì; regulates the penetrating and controlling vessels.

Modern indications: Rumbling intestines; abdominal distension; abdominal pain; constipation; infertility.

Classical indications: Counterflow qì with abdominal pain; scorching pain in the rib-side; difficult defecation; infertility; vexation and fullness; pain and reddening of the eyes spreading from the inner canthus.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒1.0 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒5 cones; pole 20‒30 min.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the kidney channel and thoroughfare vessel.
