KI-18 Stone Pass

石关 〔石關〕 shí guān

Alternate names: 石阙 shí què, Stone Gate Tower

Channel: KI, foot lesser yīn (shào yīn) kidney channel; shared point on the thoroughfare (chōng) vessel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the upper abdomen, 3 cùn superior to the umbilicus and 0.5 cùn lateral to the midline.

Classical location: One cùn below Yīn Metropolis (KI-19), one and a half cùn either side of the midline. From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: Branches of the superior epigastric artery and vein. The 8th intercostal nerve.

Action: Fortifies the center and harmonizes the stomach; frees the intestines and abducts stagnation.

Modern indications: Retching and vomiting; abdominal pain; constipation; infertility.

Classical indications: Infertility; copious spittle; malign blood surging upward in the abdomen; accumulations and gatherings; painful red eyes spreading from the inner canthus.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒1.0 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 5 cones; pole 20‒30 min.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the kidney channel and thoroughfare vessel.
