BL-66 (Foot) Valley Passage

通谷(足) 〔通谷(足)〕tōng gǔ (zú)

Alternate names: 足通谷 zú tōng gǔ, Foot Valley Passage

Channel: BL, Foot Greater Yáng (tài yáng) Bladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lateral aspect of the little toe, in a depression just distal to the fifth metatarsophalangeal (mtp) joint.

Classic location: n the outer side of the small toe, in the depression in front of the base joint. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng) D

Local anatomy: The plantar digital artery and vein. The plantar digital proprial nerve and the lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve of the foot.

Action: Disperses wind and clears heat; settles fright and quiets the spirit.

Modern indications: Headache; stiff nape; dizzy vision; nosebleed; mania and withdrawal.

Classic indications: Fullness in the chest; cough and panting; nontransformation of grain and water (undigested food in the stool); susceptibility to fright; mania and withdrawal.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.2 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒7 cones; pole 5‒20 min.

Point groups: Spring (yíng) (water) point.
