BL-63 Metal Gate

金门 〔金門〕 jīn mén

Alternate names: 关梁 guān liáng, Gate Beam; 梁关 liáng guān, Beam Gate

Channel: BL, foot greater yáng (tài yáng) bladder channel; shared point on the yáng linking (yáng wéi) vessel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lateral aspect of the foot, in the depression inferior and slightly posterior to the tuberosity of the cuboid bone.

Classical location: Slightly behind the outer anklebone, behind Hill Ruins (GB-40), in front of Extending Vessel (BL-62). From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: The lateral plantar artery and vein. The lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve of the foot; deeper, the lateral plantar nerve.

Action: Soothes the sinews and quickens the network vessels; opens the orifices and quiets the spirit.

Modern indications: Headache; epilepsy; child fright wind; lumbar pain; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) in the lower limbs; pain in the external malleolus.

Classical indications: Cholera cramps; deathlike reversal; smaller abdominal pain; fulminant mounting (shàn).

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3 cones; pole 5‒20 min.

Point groups: Cleft point (xī xué) of the bladder channel; intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the bladder channel and yáng linking vessel (yáng wéi mài).
