BL-61 Subservient Visitor

仆参 〔僕參〕pú cān

Alternate names: 安邪 ān xié, Quieting of Evil

Channel: BL, Foot Greater Yáng (tài yáng) Bladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lateral aspect of the heel, straight below BL-60, in a depression on the calcaneum at the border of the red and white flesh.

Classic location: In the depression below the heel bone. The point is found with the foot arched. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: The external calcaneal branches of the peroneal artery and vein. The external calcaneal branch of the sural nerve.

Action: Frees the channels and quickens the network vessels; disperses swelling and relieves pain.

Modern indications: Wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; heel pain; epilepsy.

Classic indications: Lumbar pain; mania and withdrawal; epilepsy; deathlike reversal; strangury-turbidity (lìn zhuó); leg qì (jiǎo qì, beriberi) and swelling of the knees; cholera cramps.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3‒0.5 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒5 cones; pole 20‒30 min.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the bladder channel and yáng springing vessel (yáng qiāo mài).
